MAPS & CITIES > MAP + INFO about CITIES in SPAIN

Spain is divided in 52 provinces, and each one of them belongs to an autonomous community, which is like a "state" division. Some of those provinces are also an independent autonomous community, like the province of Navarre (where Pamplona is located). Asturias is another example too.

Below you'll see a “political” map where you can find the different provinces within Spain with their important cities. The map shows these provinces grouped within their autonomous communities as well. Click on the cities for more information. Or click on the list further below. Check out the section "Map + Info about Spanish Regions" for a map that shows the Autonomous Communities in Spain as well as information about the geographical location of the country and cities included in each region.

The Autonomous Communities have their own governments and rules, as well as each province has its own government. Each city also has a City Council called Ayuntamiento. However, they all depend on the central power of the Spanish Government, and they can only create rules that don't affect the rules dictated by the Spanish Government and the Constitution of Spain, declared in 1978, 3 years after Franco's death.
